Church and Archaeological Traces of History

The Orthodox parish church of Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavriil stands in the village. It is dedicated to the holy archangels Michael and Gabriel. Construction of the church began during the population exchange of 1940. Vadu therefore offers a concrete connection to local history alongside its nature and coastal themes.

The Vadu–Ghiaur–Chioi archaeological site lies on a promontory at the southern end of Lake Sinoe, 2 km north of the Rare Metals Company. It includes a settlement of the Greco-Getic culture from the La Tène period. This settlement dates from the 6th to the 4th century BC. The site also includes a medieval necropolis dating from the 16th to the 18th century.

Roman, Romano-Byzantine and Modern-Era Connections

The Vadu–Bardalia archaeological site is a Roman and Romano-Byzantine settlement. Its Roman phase dates from the 2nd to the 4th century. The Karaharman fortress provides another historical connection. It is located on the grounds of the Rare Metals Company in Vadu and dates from the modern era, specifically the 17th to the 19th century.

Coast, Bird Photography and Protected Areas

The Vadu–Corbu beaches on the Chituc sandbar are considered the only remaining nesting site in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve for the Greater Pratincole. One possible activity in Vadu is bird photography.

The designation of undeveloped areas is also important for planning your coastal visit. In the undeveloped coastal areas of tourist interest near Vadu, access, traffic, staying and parking motor vehicles of any kind are prohibited. A 5 km-long concrete road initially leads to the coast near Vadu; the route then continues along a compacted sandy road. When planning a coastal day in Vadu, the transition from the 5 km-long concrete road to the subsequent compacted sandy road becomes a specific factor in arranging your journey to the coast near Vadu as part of your daily schedule.
