Nature
Peștera Vârfurașu is a nature reserve of national significance in Mărgău Commune. Piatra Arsă is a nature reserve of county-level significance in the same commune.
Vălul Miresei Waterfall is located on Valea Stanciului in the area of the village of Răchițele in Mărgău Commune. It plunges approximately 30 meters in three stages. The rock face at the waterfall, which freezes in winter, is suitable for ice climbing.
Peștera Mică a Lespezilor is approximately 100 meters long. Its main gallery is easily accessible; the cave also contains some fossil remains of cave bears.
Hiking
Circuitul Răchițele is an easy 12.5 km circular trail with 450 meters of elevation gain and a duration of 4 to 5 hours. It passes the village's Orthodox church and reaches Valea Stanciului near the village center.
Circuitul Pietrelor Albe is a moderately difficult 6 km circular trail with 530 meters of elevation gain and an ascent duration of 4 to 5 hours. From Răchițele, it leads via Valea Stanciului, past Vălul Miresei Waterfall, and onward toward Valea Seacă.
Circuitul Grotelor is a difficult 1.5 km trail with 290 meters of elevation gain and a duration of 1.5 hours. It leads to Peștera Șușman, named after the anti-communist resistance leader Teodor Șușman, and offers a viewpoint overlooking the Lespezi escarpment and Valea Stanciului.
The Doda Pilii–La Cuciulata–Răchițele connecting trail is easy, 6 km long, and has 340 meters of elevation gain on the ascent and 260 meters of elevation loss on the descent.
The trail to Vf. Lespezi is moderately difficult, 1.5 km long, and has 250 meters of elevation gain on the ascent and 70 meters of elevation loss on the descent. It passes the entrance to Peștera Mică a Lespezilor and then descends to the road in Valea Stanciului.
A viewpoint accessible via a detour of approximately 20 meters from the trail to Vf. Lespezi offers views of Valea Stanciului, Vălul Miresei Waterfall, the Falezele de Granit, the summit of Vârful Piatra Arsă, and the Vlădeasa Ridge.
Culture
The “Sfinţii Arhangheli” wooden church in Ciuleni was built in 1707 from fir wood. The Orthodox church in the village of Mărgău dates from 1506. The wooden church in Răchițele was built in 1911.
The ethnographic collection of Răchițele is housed in a room at the village school. It includes festive folk costumes for women and men, wall-mounted textiles, household items, and traditional furniture.
Măsurișul oilor is one of the local events held in May.
Geographical Location
Răchițele lies at the foot of the Vlădeasa between the karst landscape of the Bihor Mountains and the volcanic rocks of the Vlădeasa. Muncelul Mountain is located in the surroundings of Mărgău Commune. In the wider regional area around Mărgău Commune are Vârful Sturu Mountain, the Vârful Pleşu summit, and Vârful Săstinii Mountain.
Mărgău Commune can be reached from Cluj via DN 1 (E 60); the connection to the national road is via DJ 108C, which passes through Buteni, Mărgău, Scrind-Frăsinet, Răchițele, and Doda-Pilii.
