Culture and History
One of the notable archaeological traces is Movila Lungă, an archaeological burial mound (tumulus) in Valea Râmnicului. It is attributed to the Migration Period in the 3rd to 4th century. The oval mound measures approximately 80 metres from east to west, is around 50 metres wide, and up to 2 metres high.
At the northeastern edge of the village of Valea Râmnicului, the Aşezarea Latene archaeological site is located on a high terrace. A ravine divides the site into two parts; the western part forms a promontory surrounded by steep slopes on three sides. The site may date from the 4th or 3rd century BC, or from an even earlier period.
The La est de sat archaeological site lies between the villages of Valea Râmnicului and Rubla, on the terrace of the Râmnicu Sărat River. It contains material from the Early Iron Age and the 1st millennium AD, including finds from the Carpic culture, the Sântana-de-Mureş culture, and the Dridu culture. The Catedrala Izvorul Tămăduirii is also located in the same village of Rubla. The Cimitir archaeological site lies on the high terrace of the Râmnicu Sărat River.
In front of the school in Valea Râmnicului stands the monument to the heroes of the First World War. In the village of Oreavul (Oreavu), the Biserica Sfântul Mare Mucenic Dimitrie was built between 1907 and 1910. Renovation work was carried out on it between 2021 and 2023; the interior wall paintings were to be conserved and restored using oil painting techniques.
