Geographical setting
Comuna Buneşti is located in southeastern Transylvania on the Târnava Plateau at an altitude of 496 metres. The commune lies at the foot of the watershed between the river basin of the Olt to the southwest and that of the Great Târnava to the southeast. The E60 European route, which connects Braşov with Târgu Mureş, runs through Comuna Buneşti.

Nature
Comuna Buneşti encompasses 9,580.33 hectares of the Podişul Hârtibaciului Natura 2000 site. A further 13,870 hectares of the Sighişoara–Târnava Mare Natura 2000 site lie within the territory of Comuna Buneşti.
The Piscul Frumos peak, the Vârful Muşuroiului peak and the fortified church Biserica Fortificata Viscri are located in the vicinity of Comuna Buneşti. The Orthodox church Biserica Ortodoxă Beia, the Lutheran church Biserica Lutherană Beia and the Biserica Paloş church are also located nearby. In the wider regional surroundings of Comuna Buneşti are the Vârful Pietrişului and Vârful Viilor peaks.
Culture
The fortified Protestant church of BuneÅŸti was built in the 14th century and fortified in the 16th century. The keys to the fortified church of BuneÅŸti are held by the Wagner family, BuneÅŸti No. 14.
The fortified church of RoadeÈ™ was surrounded by a defensive wall with a zwinger and four defensive towers; three of them have survived to this day. It was probably built in the 14th century as a hall church with a polygonal chancel and bell tower, and fortified in the 15th century.
The ensemble of the fortified Protestant church of Meșendorf is an Early Gothic hall church with a tower on the west façade. It was built in the 14th century and fortified at the end of the 15th century. The fortification has projecting square towers and a covered defensive walkway; a zwinger with loopholes was added in the 16th century.
The Haferland Week programme includes Criț, Roadeș, Meșendorf, Buneşti and Viscri. The Haferland Week takes place every year in August.
Getting around
Horseback riding is offered in Viscri and the surrounding villages. The cycling network in the Târnava Mare area connects Viscri, Buneşti, Criț and Meșendorf and has been extended to more than 100 kilometres.
Visitors to Viscri are asked to leave their cars in the village car park and then continue on foot. The blacksmith in Viscri makes traditional tools, horseshoes, grilles, decorative items and various household utensils needed for a traditional home.
