The Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Pescari is decorated with frescoes. The paintings were created by the painter Pavel Cosma between 1996 and 1997.

Culture and History

Following the social unrest of 1784, the wooden church was the first building to be relocated. It was moved from the hamlets of Holt and Mizeș to the present-day location of Pescari. The new settlement was founded around it and given the name Pescari. The present-day Orthodox Church of Pescari was built in 1936 on the site of the previous church.

Pescari therefore has different construction periods and settlement phases on record: the wooden church is associated with the founding of the new settlement, while the 1936 Orthodox church was built at the site of the church that already existed. The frescoes by Pavel Cosma from 1996 and 1997 add a distinctly more recent artistic layer to this history.

In the affiliate parish of Feniș, the church was built between 1976 and 1980 on the site of an older church. The Biserica Pescari church is located in the immediate vicinity of Pescari. Biserica Iosaş and Biserica Bonţeşti are also located nearby.

Thus, the documented church landscape includes not only the buildings in Pescari, but also the church in Feniș and the three churches mentioned in the immediate surroundings.

Landscape and Nature

The Vârful Mizeşul mountain is located in the immediate vicinity of Pescari. The peaks Vârful Hodobeni and Vârful Lacului are located in the surroundings of Pescari. The Vârful Zmeurii peak is also located in the surroundings of Pescari.

Dosul Laurului is a national nature reserve in the municipality of Gurahonț. It covers 32.2 hectares and is located in the northern part of the village of Zimbru. The Arad Natural History Museum presents the Dosul Laurului protected area in its exhibitions.

The natural area therefore includes a clearly named protected area with a designated surface area of 32.2 hectares. Its location in the northern part of Zimbru and its inclusion in the municipality of Gurahonț provide additional information about its setting. The presentation at the Arad Natural History Museum also establishes a connection between the site itself and its representation in the museum’s exhibitions.

Remembrance and Regional Routes

In Gurahonț, the monument to Ioan Buteanu commemorates the revolutionary and prefect of Zărand. It also commemorates the priests and peasants who were executed in 1848–1849.

The monument connects the remembrance of Ioan Buteanu with the commemoration of the priests and peasants of 1848–1849. Thus, in Gurahonț, it names both a political figure and a group of people from that period.

People from northern Țara Zărandului travelled to the lowlands for seasonal harvest work. They went on foot or travelled by cart.
