Industrial and Architectural History in Radlin
Kolonia Emma was built between 1897 and 1913 as a workers’ settlement next to the “Emma” mine. Its houses are made of red brick and have small front gardens by the entrances. The buildings on today’s ul. A. Mielęckiego have retained their original appearance. It was officially opened on 6 and 7 August 1927. The Sokolnia was the first gymnasium of the Towarzystwo “Sokół” in Upper Silesia. Alongside the history of industry, it represents the history of organised gymnastics in Radlin. Swimming and Summer Music
The large pool at the Miejski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji in Radlin measures 25 m × 12.5 m. It is 1.85 m deep at its deepest point and 1.3 m at its shallowest; six swimming lanes are available. The pool also has an 80 m water slide. There is also a jacuzzi in the large pool, which can accommodate five people at a time and has a water temperature of 35 °C. The Tężnia solankowa offers another place to spend time outdoors. It was the first salt graduation tower in an industrial area of Upper Silesia and one of the first two in all of Silesia. Radlin’s programme therefore includes seasonal music events as well as historic sites.
Routes and Getting Around
The Tężnia is in the northern part of Radlin on ul. Wypandów, right on the border with Rybnik. It is located in a green corner along the Szlak Emmy i Marcela and the cycle route between Radlin PKP and Zalew Rybnicki.
