Czerwionka-Leszczyny reveals a variety of distinct, clearly located attractions: in Leszczyny, paths lead through a manor house park; in Bełk, to a historic wooden church; and in Palowice, to ponds and the ruins of an ironworks. There are also manor houses with their own architectural history and a memorial site. When planning your stay, you can give nature, architecture and local history the emphasis that best suits your interests.

Nature and History Trail in Leszczyny

The approximately 2 km-long nature and history trail “Wśród leszczyn i śladów Bartelta” is located in the Leszczyny district. It leads from the manor house known as “Zameczek” through the manor house park to a large English oak. It grows beside a pond and a residential building known as the town hall. The route thus links a park landscape with notable trees and named locations. For travellers who want to discover nature and history together, both are already part of the trail.

Manor Houses and Park History

Leszczyny is home to a Neoclassical manor house known as “Zamek”. Konrad von Bartelt had it built in 1882 on the site of an earlier wooden manor house. The date and the earlier building give the architecture a specific history: this is not only about the manor house’s outward appearance, but also about the transition from the earlier wooden building to the later structure. In the Czerwionka district, a 19th-century manor house building has also been preserved. It is surrounded by a park with valuable trees, described as a remnant of the former manor house park. This inherited park landscape is also part of the district’s historic character.

A Memorial Site in Leszczyny

In the municipality of Czerwionka-Leszczyny, the Szlak Historii Górnictwa Górnośląskiego passes a memorial in Leszczyny. It commemorates 292 Auschwitz prisoners who were murdered near Rzędówka railway station in January 1945 during the evacuation of the camp. This section adds a sombre historical note alongside paths to parks, ponds and buildings. For a trip that also takes the area’s history into account, the memorial is a point of interest in its own right.

Paths in Bełk and Palowice

The approximately 2.5 km-long “Śladami Belka” educational trail begins in the centre of Bełk and leads to the historic wooden Church of St Mary Magdalene and the “Górka Lukasów” hill, which was built in 1866. In Palowice, a 3.5 km-long educational trail leads to the ruins of the “Waleska” ironworks, next to the Jesionka, where the trail ends. The destinations are quite different: in Bełk, the wooden church and historic hill are the main attractions; in Palowice, the ironworks ruins. The two routes thus offer different opportunities to explore local history.

Ponds and Nature Watching in Palowice

The Stawy Łańcuchowe also contribute to Palowice’s natural attractions. Along the trail, you can observe different stages of aquatic succession and may also encounter waterbirds. Some of the ponds are becoming heavily overgrown with marsh and woodland vegetation. The focus is therefore not only on individual buildings or historic sites, but also on changes within the pond landscape. Those who enjoy looking closely will find a different focus here than at the manor house and memorial sites.

Plan Your Trip Around Your Interests

The route lengths can be compared directly: approximately 2 km in Leszczyny, approximately 2.5 km on the educational trail in Bełk and 3.5 km in Palowice. The destinations also differ: a manor house park and oak, a wooden church and hill, or the ruins of an ironworks. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Czerwionka-Leszczyny, you can choose your excursions according to which of these themes you want to shape your stay. Architecture, the history of remembrance and nature watching each offer a different way to explore the area.
