Comprachtschütz can be explored through different layers of time: a parish church and its rectory date from 1936, while the town’s history also tells of a cigar factory, a house from the 19th century and early transport links. Cultural activities organised by a local institution add to this. If you would like to shape your stay around history and culture, you will find several specific starting points here for planning your trip.

Traces of change in the townscape

Between the world wars, a cigar factory owned by Otto Deter operated in Comprachtschütz. The former factory building now houses a department store. The building illustrates a change in use: it once belonged to a local business and now serves a different purpose. The factory’s history is therefore not just a single historical episode, but is linked to a building that is still in use.

The Sticha House, dating from the 19th century, is another example of a building changing over time. It was repurposed as the seat of the municipal administration. Together with the former factory building, it shows two different ways in which houses in Comprachtschütz acquired a new function over time. If you are interested in local history, you can view these different uses as part of the town’s development.

The parish church of St. Francis is also among the town’s notable historical landmarks: it dates from 1936. The rectory in the church complex was also built in 1936. The church and rectory can thus be placed in their historical context without conflating their history with that of older buildings or later changes. The mass grave of the victims of the Second World War is considered a cultural heritage site of regional significance. It commemorates another, sombre part of the town’s history and should be approached with due respect.

Cultural activities and community events

The Samorządowy Ośrodek Kultury in Comprachtschütz organises community cultural activities, cultural education, individual cultural activities and cultural events. Artistic groups are also among its areas of work. This means that cultural life extends beyond individual events: it includes various forms of participation and learning. This may be of particular interest when planning your trip if you are interested not only in historic buildings but also in cultural activities in the town.

The Ośrodek also organises festivals, picnics, sports tournaments and community harvest festivals together with local organisations. These occasions represent different forms of community life—from cultural festivals to sporting gatherings and harvest celebrations. When planning a stay, you can therefore consider cultural history and local cultural activities as separate interests, without combining them into a single programme.

Transport history and a look at the surrounding area

Transport history is also part of Comprachtschütz’s history. In 1887, trains first ran from Opole to Nysa through Chmielowice, Comprachtschütz and Polska Nowa Wieś. The former PKP railway station building in Comprachtschütz also dates from 1887 and is now a residential building. The historic railway link and the building are two separate indications of the railway history of the time; they do not imply anything about current train services.

Another development in transport history was the newly built road from Ochodz to Comprachtschütz: cars began using it in 1930. Nearby, in Ochodz, there is a wooden church that was built in Comprachtschütz in 1702 and moved to Ochodz in 1941. Its history links its present location with its former place of construction and thus includes two clearly dated stages.

Historical traces range from the changing use of individual buildings to the development of transport routes; the cultural centre’s activities offer a separate, community-focused perspective.
