Music, museums and the history of the Earth

At the Museum of the Polish Song in Opole, the story of Polish song spans from the 1920s to the present day. The museum also serves as a cultural centre, offering artist talks, concerts, museum classes and educational activities for children. Recording booths for songs and a professional recording studio complement the museum’s musical exhibits. A visit can therefore appeal to anyone interested in songs, their history and how they are recorded.

The Palaeontological Pavilion at JuraPark Krasiejów offers a different perspective on the past. It protects Europe’s largest fossil-bearing layer of Triassic amphibians and reptiles. The Science and Entertainment Park in Krasiejów consists of JuraPark Krasiejów and the Park of Science and Human Evolution. Anyone interested in fossils will find a clear thematic focus here; the two attractions also give the park a scientific and human-history perspective.

Geology, outdoor activities and distinctive places

The Góra Św. Anny National Geopark is one of three geoparks in Poland. A ten-kilometre geological walking and cycling trail runs through it, with eleven geosites and information boards. You can plan the route as a walk or bike ride and explore geological topics at the marked stops along the way. Góra Św. Anny is also home to a sanctuary that has been visited by three popes.

For a stay focused on historic buildings, Brzeg Castle of the Silesian Piasts offers a tangible glimpse of several architectural periods: it was built in the 13th century as a Gothic residence and fortification, then given a Renaissance design in the 16th century. The Museum of the Silesian Piasts is located in the castle. This lets you explore the history and the museum in the same building without blending its successive designs into a single period.

Paczków also preserves visible traces of its city fortifications. In places, the medieval defensive walls are up to seven metres high. They enclose the city in a 1.2-kilometre oval, with 19 towers and three gate towers. The Gasworks Museum in Paczków offers a very different collection: its collection of gas meters is considered the largest in Europe. Those interested in urban history can focus on the walls, while the museum offers a distinct perspective for anyone interested in the history of technology.

In Nysa, St. Hedwig’s Bastion is part of the city fortifications built in the 14th century. A tourist route passes through its historic corridors and forms part of the trail along the former fortifications of Nysa Fortress. The tourist information point in the bastion provides pilgrims on the Nysa Way of St. James with information about accommodation and dining options along the route.

Moszna Castle, cycling routes and regional cuisine

Moszna Castle offers a range of activities throughout the year, including guided tours, an app, access to the tower, themed programmes and three versions of an outdoor adventure game. Since 1984, it has also hosted the Blooming Azaleas Music Festival. If castle visits interest you, there are several formats to choose from: guided tours and themed programmes, as well as outdoor adventure games; the festival adds music to the cultural calendar.

If you prefer to get around by bike, Stobrawa Landscape Park has several cycling routes, including a marked red trail that is also suitable for cycling. For culinary discoveries, the Opolski Bifyj route, established in 2015, runs through the Opole Voivodeship. It includes restaurants with historical and regional significance, family-run businesses spanning generations and newer restaurants. The Opolskie Wine Route promotes wine tourism in the voivodeship. The two routes offer different ways to discover regional cuisine and wine, without limiting your trip to a single theme.

If you would like to combine several themes, it helps to decide which visits matter most to you first, then choose where to stay.
