The town’s history at the regional museum
Since 2005, the Oleskie Regional Museum has been housed in a listed Baroque tenement building dating from the 18th century. The building itself combines a museum visit with a glimpse of historic architecture. The permanent exhibitions cover the history of the town of Olesno, the celebrations marking the 800th anniversary of the town, and forestry and hunting. The themes therefore range from local history to subjects relating to forests and the landscape.
The museum also houses a tourist information office. Anyone interested in Olesno’s history will therefore find both exhibitions and a place to get tourist information here.
Two churches, two distinctive features
St. Michael’s Church stands in the town centre and is Olesno’s oldest church. Inside are more than 50 depictions of angels—a striking detail for anyone interested in religious art and furnishings when visiting the town. St. Anne’s Church offers a different perspective: it is a wooden church dating from the 16th century. Its floor plan, shaped like a five-petalled rose, earned it the name “the rose enchanted in wood of Olesno.”
St. Anne’s serves as a place of prayer and is also open to tourist visits. The church thus brings together its religious function and its distinctive timber construction. Anyone interested in sacred architecture can consider both churches as contrasting examples: St. Michael’s for its age and angel depictions, and St. Anne’s for its construction and floor plan.
Timber architecture trails and different routes
The Sacred Timber Architecture Trail runs from Opole to Olesno and is signposted for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. These different ways of getting around give you flexibility when planning your trip, without requiring you to commit to a particular way of exploring.
The tourist timber architecture trail runs from Olesno via Stare Olesno and Bąków to Ligota Górna. Its named stops show that the route takes in several places. If you are interested in timber architecture, you can make this a different kind of outing from a visit to the churches in Olesno. The two trails follow different routes as described; choose the one whose route and mode of transport suit your plans.
Siedem Źródeł: forest clearing and educational trail
Siedem Źródeł is a forest clearing that dates from the 17th century and is connected with the expansion of St. Anne’s wooden church in Olesno. The site thus brings together a natural setting and a connection to the history of timber architecture. An educational trail runs through Siedem Źródeł, with information boards under the title “Siedem Źródeł – leśne sanktuarium” (“Siedem Źródeł – Forest Sanctuary”).
Near the clearing, there is a tourist shelter and benches, as well as a fire or barbecue area. These facilities offer a place to rest along the educational trail. Visitors interested in nature can make Siedem Źródeł a focus of their trip alongside the churches and the regional museum.
Water facilities at Oleska Laguna
Oleska Laguna is an indoor sports and leisure complex. Its sports pool measures 25 × 12.5 metres. There is also a 10.25 × 3 metre leisure pool for swimming lessons and a children’s paddling pool. The different pools are clearly distinguished by their stated functions.
The complex also includes a 106-metre-long water slide with sound and lighting effects, as well as a whirlpool with hydromassage. Alongside cultural and nature-based destinations, Olesno therefore offers a choice of water facilities with several specific features.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Olesno, your preferred focus can help guide you: the town’s history and sacred architecture, a signposted route, the forest or water each offer a different experience.
