Buraków reveals traces of its history and culture in various ways: a public mural, a street exhibition and art in the church each make their own mark. Memorial sites are part of the local landscape, alongside a recreation area and walking routes. This lets you explore different interests during your stay—from art and remembrance to time outdoors.

Art and history in the village

On October 17, 2022, the public mural “HAFCIARKA” was unveiled in an alley between 11 Listopada and Przyłuskiego streets. It was created by artist Dorota Berger. As a work of public art, it offers a distinct way to experience art in Buraków; its title and precise location give it a clear connection to the neighborhood. There is also a street exhibition about the history of the neighborhood. Those interested in local history can explore the area in another way, in addition to visiting its memorial sites.

In the church in Buraków, the main altar features the marble sculpture “Pani Jazłowiecka.” It is one of five sculptures by artist Oskar Sosnowski. The same church contains plaques commemorating the heroes of the Miracle on the Vistula and the murdered residents of Buraków. The combination of religious art and remembrance makes the church an important cultural landmark. It is the starting point for the municipal walking route: the visit to the church begins the walk.

Another distinctive figure in the Church of Blessed Marcelina Darowska is a charred wooden statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Its history has been connected with the surrounding area for more than 150 years. This sets it apart from the marble sculpture on the main altar: here, the focus is not only on the material, but also on the statue’s long-standing association with its surroundings. Together with the memorial plaques, it shows the different ways remembrance takes shape in the church.

Memorial sites and time outdoors

Outside the church, various sites also recall the past. A monument in Buraków commemorates 22 Poles murdered by the Nazis between 1939 and 1942. On Skwer Niepodległości, there is a memorial stone and a sundial. The square thus brings together a specific memorial and another, everyday object used to tell the time. The square also has a new recreation and leisure area. These different features give the square several distinct functions without reducing them to a single theme.

A nearby walk leads to a wooden viewing platform above a pond that sometimes dries up. The changing water level is a notable feature of this destination, and the platform provides a viewpoint overlooking it. Another nearby walk leads to Młociny Park. There, you’ll find a sunny children’s playground with wooden play equipment, benches and a fire pit. These specific features can help you take different interests into account when planning your day: in addition to the walk and the park, the playground, seating and fire pit are among the things to consider.

The municipal tourism guide lists “From Buraków to the Palace in Młociny” as the second walking route. Along with the walk that begins at the Church of Blessed Marcelina Darowska in Buraków, this provides guidance on two differently named routes. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether you’d like to discover Buraków mainly for its art and memorial sites or for its walks and playground. This way, you can plan your trip around the experiences that interest you rather than a type of accommodation that isn’t described in these details.
