Kutno combines distinctive architectural heritage with a diverse cultural scene and options for active leisure. Palaces, a museum and a former theatre give the city’s history tangible places; literary festivals and the rose exhibition add other highlights. The aquapark also offers a range of sports and leisure facilities. Which of these sides of Kutno interests you most may also help determine your choice of holiday apartment.

Palaces and the City’s History

The Pałac Saski stands in the centre of Kutno. King Augustus III commissioned it in 1750 as a post house and travelling palace. The building is a surviving architectural testament to the Polish-Saxon union. Its history thus connects a specific building with a clearly defined purpose: travel and postal services.

Another perspective on the city’s architectural history can be found at the Zespół Pałacowy Gierałty. Its comprehensive revitalisation was completed in 2019. The salon retains wooden wall panelling and a fireplace—details that give the interior a distinct architectural character. The two palaces represent different aspects of Kutno’s cultural heritage and should not be confused with one another.

The restored Neoclassical town hall is also part of the city’s history: the Regional Museum is housed in the building. It displays keepsakes and documents relating to Kutno’s history. Those interested in the city’s development will find a different perspective here than at the historic palaces. The former town theatre is now the Centrum Teatru, Muzyki i Tańca (Centre for Theatre, Music and Dance).

Strolls, Roses and Literature

The Old Town’s character includes the renovated Królewska Street and Plac Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego. Both are described as places for strolling and relaxation. They complement the historic buildings with urban experiences that are not tied to a museum or a single exhibition.

One of the city’s major event highlights is Święto Róży (Rose Festival). The Wystawa Róż (Rose Exhibition) has been its main feature since 1975. The long-running Festiwal Jeremiego Przybory „Stacja Kutno“ is also held in Kutno and has national significance. The Festiwal im. Szaloma Asza has a literary focus: the municipal and county library organises it in memory of the Jewish writer Szalom Asz, who was born in Kutno.

Festiwal Złoty Środek Poezji (Golden Mean of Poetry Festival) adds another distinctive touch. It includes a competition for debut poetry collections, which the city describes as currently the largest of its kind in the country. Together, these events show that Kutno’s cultural life encompasses roses, theatre and literature as well as architectural history. If you plan to time your trip around a particular festival, include its dates in your plans.

Leisure and Choosing a Base

Kutno Aquapark has a sports pool and a leisure pool, a climbing wall and two indoor water slides. It also offers a sauna and steam room, a bowling alley, and fitness and squash rooms. Its facilities range from swimming and exercise to relaxation and indoor sports. Check the current facilities and visitor information before planning a visit.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Kutno, it helps to first decide what your trip will focus on: are you most interested in the city’s history and museum, events or leisure activities? If you are travelling for a particular festival, remember to check its dates as well.
