Kutno brings together a variety of discoveries: a historic travel palace stands in the city centre, alongside an annual rose exhibition and a large baseball complex. The Pałac Saski and Kutno’s history
The Pałac Saski stands in the centre of Kutno. The historic post and travel palace was built in 1750 on the orders of King Augustus III. Its function as a post and travel palace sets it apart from an ordinary residence and gives the building a specific connection to the history of travel. Today, it is regarded as practically the only preserved historic monument in Poland considered to be a material legacy of the Polish–Saxon Union.
The Muzeum Pałac Saski has existed as a multi-disciplinary institution since 1981. It presents a permanent exhibition on the history of Kutno and the Battle of the Bzura. This connects the city’s history with a historical event that also features in the name of another museum in Kutno. The Muzeum Bitwy nad Bzurą has been closed to visitors since 1 April 2022; take this status into account when choosing your cultural destinations.
Another chapter in the city’s history can be seen at the Evangelical church. The brick building was constructed in 1880, replacing a wooden church dating from 1831. The two dates mark different phases of construction: first there was the wooden church, later replaced by the brick building. Roses as a festival and treat theme
The Święto Róży is an annual exhibition of roses and floral arrangements organised by the Kutnowski Dom Kultury in Kutno. The focus is on both the roses themselves and the way they are arranged. This gives the event a different character from a simple display of individual flowers: floral arrangements are also explicitly part of the exhibition’s theme.
The rose theme also appears in sweet treats available in Kutno. Cukiernia Wasiakowie offers rose ice cream, pralines and biscuits. This lets you take different interests into account when planning your trip: an exhibition featuring roses and floral arrangements on the one hand, and sweets on the other.
Baseball and activity
Kutno is also a centre for baseball and softball. The regional training centre on Kościuszki Street covers 18 hectares. The baseball complex includes two floodlit stadiums, each with stands that can accommodate 2,000 spectators, as well as several training fields. Its scale and variety of facilities make sport a clearly recognisable part of what Kutno has to offer.
The European Little League Baseball Training Center in Kutno encompasses 55 countries and is also used for recreation. Together with the regional training centre, it forms a sporting hub that clearly differs from the city’s historic and floral attractions. The history of arriving by train and choosing a base
The railway station building is also part of Kutno’s transport history: it opened in 1862, at the same time as the Warsaw–Bydgoszcz railway line was completed.
