Wojnicz: City History, Renaissance Art and a Hiking Trail

In 1239, an assembly of the nobility of Lesser Poland took place in Wojnicz to welcome Kinga. She was the daughter of the King of Hungary and the future wife of Bolesław the Chaste. A Renaissance triptych in the main altar

The main altar of St. Leonard’s Church in Wojnicz is in the Neo-Renaissance style and dates from the late 19th century. It contains paintings from a Renaissance triptych, painted by Stanisław Tarczowski around 1560. The central panel depicts the Visitation of Saint Elizabeth; the side panels show Saint Helena and Saint Catherine. The altarpiece contains an image of Saint Leonard.

The altar thus brings together two art-historical periods: its design from the late 19th century and the much older paintings.
