The Gmina Babice lies in the Chrzanowski County of Lesser Poland and is described as being approximately 38 km from Kraków and 40 km from Katowice, as well as close to Zator, Oświęcim and Wadowice.
The Gmina Babice is also described as a municipality with natural, cultural and landscape heritage as well as cultural events. It has a prepared network of cycling and hiking trails and lies on the boundary between the southern Tenczyn Ridge and the Vistula Valley.

The documented history of Zagórze dates back to the 13th century; the first mention comes from the years 1228–1242, and in 1242 Zagórze became the property of the Bishops of Kraków.
Local municipal history describes Zagórze as being surrounded by elevations on three sides; this topographical feature is reflected in the name of the settlement.
Part of Zagórze lies within Tenczyn Landscape Park. The Bukowica nature reserve is located within this part of the village.
