Hiking: Steps, Ridges and Historic Sites

The historic hike up the Sherpa Steps leads from Dalen to Rui. The 1 km route has 810 steps and 200 metres of elevation gain; the walk takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The Lårdalstigen, a trail between Dalen and Lårdal, offers a different hiking experience. Much of the route follows a mountain ridge 800 metres above the Telemark Canal. The M/S Henrik Ibsen, a veteran ship dating from 1907, sails the waters. During the canal season, it travels between Skien and Dalen.
