Florø: Culture, Sea and Special Routes
Accommodation in Florø
Florø combines maritime impressions with culture, activity and places to relax. On a self-guided cultural walk, you’ll come across artworks, old boats, buildings and nature. There’s also the view from Litleåsen, a café with its own test brewery and activities by the sea. This means you can shape your stay in many different ways: with a circular walk, a museum visit or time for swimming and sauna.
Culture and Routes in Florø
The cultural walk is a self-guided circular route that takes about two hours. Its themes include artworks and old boats, as well as buildings and nature. If you enjoy exploring independently, it’s a way to discover different sides of Florø on a single route. Another cultural stop is Florø kyrkje: the wooden long church was built in 1882 to plans by Jacob Wilhelm Nordan and has room for 500 people.
Kystmuseet is about two kilometres from the centre of Florø. The walk takes you through residential areas and beautiful natural surroundings and takes approximately 30 minutes. This gives you a concrete point of reference if you want to choose your accommodation with a museum visit in mind. Location relative to the centre also matters for a visit to the Havhesten aquatic centre: it’s a ten-minute walk from the centre, by the sea, with views of fjords and mountains.
There are two different destinations for enjoying exercise with a view. A good but steep path leads up Litleåsen to an old water tank. It has been converted into a concert venue and viewpoint. A hiking trail leads to 293-metre-high Brandsøyåsen and begins almost right in the centre of Florø.
Water, Sauna and Shared Experiences
Havhesten combines a swimming pool with a training and spinning room. The heated swimming pool has a temperature of 28°C, while the therapy pool is 33.5°C. So, in Florø, you can choose swimming as well as hiking. Havstua Sauna offers something different: it’s located on the seashore and has sea views, saltwater bathing barrels and easy access to refreshing sea swims.
The climbing park in Florø opened in 2016 and is considered a free activity for everyone. Together with the opportunities to swim, hike and explore independently, it offers a varied selection of ways to spend the day. Which of these activities is most important for your trip may also influence your preferred location when looking for a holiday apartment.
Brewery and Getting There
Vesle Kinn, the café and test brewery of Kinn Bryggeri, is located in the heart of Strandgata. The small brewery experiments with new ingredients and recipes; it also stores beer in French oak barrels. On guided tours and tastings, you can see the brewery premises and equipment and learn about the brewing process and the history of Kinn Bryggeri. Groups can book tours and tastings year-round.
There are air and boat connections for getting here. Florø Airport is close to the centre and can be reached in about five minutes by car or approximately 30 minutes on foot. Widerøe and DAT operate several flights a day to Bergen and Oslo. Local scheduled boats depart from Fugleskjærskaia several times a day, making it possible to arrive and depart by boat. The routes to Kystmuseet and Havhesten, as well as the hiking trail to Brandsøyåsen that starts almost in the centre, offer additional guidance when choosing the location of your holiday apartment based on the activities that interest you.
