Åna-Sira offers many different reasons to explore the area: Brufjell and the Brufjell Caves are striking natural features, while old salmon ladders and a wooden church offer insights into the area's history. There are also 26 marked hiking trails and a nine-hole disc golf course. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Åna-Sira, you can plan your stay around whether you mainly want to spend time outdoors, explore historical traces or play a round of disc golf.

Brufjell and the Brufjell Caves

Brufjell rises 184 metres above sea level in Åna-Sira and offers views of Listalandet. A marked trail leads from the summit down to the Brufjell Caves. They lie on a plateau about 20 metres above sea level. This makes it possible to combine a visit with a hike from the summit to a natural feature at a much lower elevation.

The Brufjell Caves were formed by persistent wave action during the Tapes period, which dates back approximately 8,000 to 4,000 years. Their origins give the outing a distinctive geological dimension: here, you encounter not only a striking landform but also a landscape shaped by natural forces acting over a long period. The approximate timeframe is broad, spanning from about 8,000 to 4,000 years ago.

Hiking trails and varied landscapes

In Åna-Sira, you can explore one of the 26 marked hiking trails. This gives anyone who likes to include outdoor activities in their stay plenty of options. Which route you choose depends on your own plans; the number of trails alone does not indicate the length or difficulty of any individual hike. Brufjell is one specific natural landmark, with a marked trail leading down to the Brufjell Caves.

Sandvika is also notable for its wide variety of rock types. In Smellerglova, different types of rock create a striking play of colours. These two local features offer different reasons to appreciate the area's geological diversity. They complement the hiking options with landscapes where rock and colour take centre stage.

History and activities in the area

Åna-Sira Church was built in 1888 as a wooden long church. There are also ponds in Åna-Sira that were created for ice production at the beginning of the 19th century. Together with the historical walk to the old salmon ladders, they offer several ways to explore the area's history, independently of a hike to Brufjell.

If you are looking for an activity other than hiking, Åna-Sira has a disc golf course near the Åna-Sira power station. It has nine holes. The course is somewhat more challenging than the one in Sokndal; several holes require greater precision and control. This difference can help you decide which course is a better fit for your planned round, without assuming a particular playing style.

Getting around during your stay

Along Fv. 44/Nordsjøvegen, you reach Åna-Sira first, followed by Jøssingfjord and then the municipal centre of Hauge i Dalane. This provides a clear reference for travelling along the road. There is also a practical stop for motorhome travellers: the motorhome parking area in Åna-Sira has electrical hookups.
