Orre combines the open landscape of Orrestranden with nature information and cultural history. Visitors swim, surf and walk on the beach; dunes and a landscape behind the dunes complement the seashore. At the same time, Friluftshuset på Orre offers insights into nature conservation and outdoor activities in Jæren. The old church of Orre adds a historical touch. When choosing where to stay, you can weigh up whether you are most interested in discovering the coastal landscape, nature or culture.

Beach Landscape and Protected Nature

The coastal zone of Orrestranden consists of several landscape features: alongside the actual seashore are sand dunes and a landscape behind the dunes with more diverse plant life. Those interested in the local nature will find not only a beach for swimming, surfing and walking, but also different types of coastal landscape. These three areas help show that Orrestranden is more than a single stretch of beach.

Orrestranden lies within the Jærstrendene Landscape Conservation Area. Plant and bird protection regulations also apply at Orrestranden. These rules are part of what you need to know during your stay: nature experiences and beach activities take place within a protected landscape. In the wider travel area, the area between Orrevatnet and the sea is among the most species-rich areas in Norway. This refers to the area between the lake and the sea, not just the beach.

Nature at Friluftshuset

Friluftshuset på Orre is the Jæren friluftsråd information centre for outdoor activities and nature conservation. Its permanent exhibition covers the Jærstrendene Landscape Conservation Area and opportunities for outdoor activities in Jæren. A visit therefore brings together two perspectives: the protected landscape and how people can spend their leisure time in nature.

The house is also one of three centres of Besøkssenter Våtmark Jæren and is among the attractions along the Norwegian Scenic Route Jæren. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider Friluftshuset both as a source of information about nature and in connection with the scenic route. The house is also a regional cultural centre for art exhibitions, concerts and events of various kinds.

A Historical Touch in Orre

The old church of Orre dates from the mid-13th century and is protected as a heritage site. It is the oldest building in Klepp. Its appearance is distinctive for its construction in masonry and wood and for having no church tower. These features give the church a distinctive architectural character, while its age makes it a notable historic building in the area.

The church is situated by the Orreelva and along road fv. 507. If you are interested in historic buildings, you can include this place as a cultural highlight in your travel plans. Together with the exhibition and events at Friluftshuset, it offers a different way to experience Orre than through its beach and dunes: nature and culture are different reasons to get to know the place.
