Den Gamle Jærbanen is a continuous hiking and cycling trail from Hellvik to Egersund. It largely follows the route of the old Jærbanen railway, offering a special combination of exercise and railway history. Vannbassengan has several kilometres of nature and cultural trails. From the centre of Egersund, a marked trail also leads to Trollpikken.
At Varberg, there are short nature trails and a path to the summit. From there, you can see the town, the harbour entrance and the district. At the foot of Varberg are rock carvings or runes from the Late Bronze Age, dating to around 1000 to 500 BC. Another hiking option is near Helleland: Mysinghålå is located on Mysingheia, about 20 km from the centre of Egersund. The area has a 10 km marked hiking trail. Mysinghålå served as an occasional hideout for more than a year for the resistance group Vestige IV of Kompani Linge, the “Aakre-gjengen”. Coastal and bathing spots
Skadbergsanden is the largest bathing spot in Eigersund municipality. It has a shallow sandy beach that stretches for more than 500 metres; low sand dunes are also part of the landscape. Older traces also shape the surrounding area: Stoplesteinane is an Iron Age stone circle with 16 upright stones. It can be reached in about 20 minutes via an easy but steep footpath. Litlå klopp, in turn, is a stone arch bridge probably dating from the 18th century and part of an old route between Egersund and Hauge. For more than 800 years, people have gathered at Egersund kirke for services and important life events.
The Egersund Fayancemuseum displays objects from the factory’s long history and illustrates its importance to the town of Egersund. Alongside forts, a bridge and a stone circle, anyone interested in local history and crafts can also explore the area’s industrial past.
Indoor experiences and local beer history
AstroSenteret in Egersund is an interactive experience centre that brings together an indoor play area, technology and activities under one roof. Its free-roam VR arena can accommodate up to 16 players at a time. This offers a clear contrast to hiking trails and outdoor excursions.
