Galleri Espolin manages and presents a unique art collection by Kaare Espolin Johnson (1907–1994). SKREI, meanwhile, tells the story of migrating cod, which has shaped fishing in Lofoten, coastal life and Norway for a thousand years. Together, they offer two distinct perspectives: an artist’s collection and the long-standing importance of cod to the coast and fishing.

At the Otolith, the main exhibition brings the history of Lofoten fishing to life through sound, projections and atmospheric staging. Another place to see art is the Lille Kabelvåg art gallery and museum, with 600 square metres of exhibition space. Vågan Church, also known as Lofotenkatedralen, was inaugurated in October 1898 and is located near Kjerkvågen, about 1 km east of Kabelvåg. The church’s access arrangements may vary.

Activities from Workshops to Viewpoints

Lofoten Glass offers a glass jewellery workshop where visitors shape molten glass into a bead or pendant. Check availability before your trip. You can kayak from Kabelvåg or join a fishing trip followed by dinner. For these activities, too, it is advisable to check in advance whether they are offered on your preferred date.

A well-maintained shared cycle and footpath connects Svolvær and Kabelvåg. Nearby, the hiking trail towards Glomtind leads to a viewpoint overlooking Kabelvåg. Trail conditions depend on the season and the weather, so take this into account when planning. This gives you a choice of different ways to spend the day: a route between the two places, a viewpoint or activities on the water.
