Nikšić: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Just a few hundred metres from Nikšić city centre lies the Trebjesa park forest. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Nikšić can then continue their search for accommodation. Culture and History

Bedem is the remnant of a Roman fortification from the 4th century, a castrum built on the Salunto–Narona road. Bedem was rebuilt between 1700 and 1705 and has been preserved to this day. Cultural and artistic programmes take place at Bedem.

King Nikola’s Palace was built in 1900 to celebrate the fortieth year of Prince Nikola’s reign. The Local Museum has been housed in the palace since 1951. Its archaeological collection comprises more than 9,500 objects from the prehistoric archaeological site of Crvena Stijena.

Behind King Nikola’s Palace, the lapidarium displays Stećci dating from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. The Stećci bear carved motifs such as vines, bands, friezes, borders, crosses, arches, arrows, shields and swords. They also depict figurative scenes featuring folk dances, individual figures, knightly battles and tournaments.

The Cathedral Church of Saint Basil of Ostrog was built in 1900 on Petrova Glavica. Inside, the names of 3,098 fallen Montenegrin and Herzegovinian soldiers are displayed on silk in gilded frames. Queen Jelena, the daughter of King Nikola, donated part of the interior furnishings.

Crvena Stijena, an archaeological site of global importance and a first-category monument, is located in the vicinity of Nikšić. Crvena Stijena has 31 identified cultural layers and more than 20,000 artefacts.

The municipality of Nikšić is connected by main roads to Podgorica, the Bay of Kotor and Žabljak.
