Škaljari: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A monument in Škaljari commemorates the leaders of the 1918 Boka Navy mutiny: František Raš, Antun Grabar, Jerko Šižgorić, and Mato Brničević. The monument was designed by Anđelka and Stevo Marović. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Škaljari can then continue their accommodation search.

Culture

The St Dujma Church was restored in 2004 and returned to religious use. It is a single-nave stone building from the 19th century with a semicircular apse and a bell cote. The St Luke Church was first mentioned in the 16th century; its present appearance dates from the 17th or 18th century.

The Church of the Protection of the Mother of God in Škaljari was built in 1846 and modelled on the St Luke Church in Kotor. The St Mihovil Church was built in 1865 in the southern part of the Kotor Cemetery. The Church of Our Lady of the Snows was built in 1903 and is located among mature pine trees behind a walled entrance. Škaljari also contains the southernmost church dedicated to Saint Dujma. The St Vincent Church was built in 1828 as a single-nave stone building.

History

The St Francis Monastery Complex at Gurdić was founded in 1288 by Queen Jelena Anžujska. The archaeological site includes a medieval cemetery and the remains of the St Peter Church, which was built over late antique remains.

The Škaljari Cemetery is a member of the Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe and has been granted European Heritage status.

Things to Do

Lipovac House stands directly beside the old Austro-Hungarian road to Njeguši. The courtyard contains a paved path and a threshing floor that was once used for threshing grain.

The routes at Škaljari’s Boneyard Wall are described as remaining dry, even after weeks or months of rain. The first section of the Boneyard Wall is 45 metres high.
