Culture and History

Bijela first appears in a document from Kotor dating from 1333 under the name Sankti Petri. A document from 1355 already refers to the place by its present-day name. Sankti Petri was the site of a Benedictine monastery and a small church; today, the location is called Rake.

The churches also preserve different historical layers. The Church of Sv. Vrači in Bijela dates from the 18th century. Riza Bogorodice was built in the 19th century on the foundations of a church from the 12th century. The Church of Rize Bogorodice preserves the apse of an older church from the 12th or 13th century, as well as remains of medieval frescoes.

Sv. Petar stands on foundations dating from the 9th century and was rebuilt in the 15th and 18th centuries. Architectural fragments of Sv. Petar date from the 9th to the 11th century. Petra dates from 1783.

Coast and Bathing Areas

The coastal waters of Bijela are classified as Class II. Monitored waters in Classes I and II are considered suitable for bathing and seaside recreation. Azzuro is a hotel beach in Bijela that is also open to the public.

The existing bathing area of the Delfin Hotel is divided into Atlas Zones 19B1 and 19B3. It has been adapted for people with reduced mobility. Zone 19B1 includes space for sun loungers and parasols, changing rooms, a lifeguard station, waste containers, and a volleyball court; toilets and showers are available in an adjacent catering facility.
