Katun Reževići: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
When searching for a holiday apartment to rent in Katun Reževići, the focus is on a place featuring Reževići Monastery, a medieval complex with three churches preserving frescoes, icons and ecclesiastical objects.
Culture and History
The monastery comprises two churches, the remains of a third church and a monastic dormitory. The iconostasis in the Church of the Holy Trinity was created by the painter Marko Gregović from Petrovac in the late 19th century. The monastery's second church, with its distinctive bell tower, dates from the beginning of the 19th century.
The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God at Reževići Monastery dates from the 13th century and is traditionally attributed to Stefan Prvovenčani. The surviving remains of the third church include fresco paintings; they point to a 14th-century church founded by Emperor Dušan and dedicated to Saint Stefan.
The Reževići Memorial House was established in 1996 in a former school founded next to the monastery in 1856. The house is associated with exhibitions on the Paštrovići and coastal heritage, as well as with publications and scientific and artistic projects.
Landscape
Rijeka Reževići–Katun Reževići is recognised in Montenegro's national landscape typology as a landscape character area. In the immediate surroundings, the monastery stands on a broad plateau facing the sea at the foot of Mount Voštanica.
Getting Around
The monastery is located next to the main road between Sveti Stefan and Petrovac. Local buses run year-round between Budva and Petrovac via Reževići.
The route between Petrovac and Perazića Do passes through a well-lit, 500-metre-long tunnel consisting of three separate tunnels. A hiking trail from Petrovac reaches Perazića Do and continues uphill to Reževići Monastery; it is approximately 3 kilometres long and climbs 150 metres in elevation.
Perazića Do is a small sandy and gravel beach in the bay below Reževići Monastery; it can be reached via a turn-off from the Budva–Petrovac main road. The beach is approximately 40 metres long and covers 540 square metres.
Local Tradition
Reževići Monastery is associated with pressing olives using a traditional stone mill.
