Svencelė between lagoon, dunes, and forest

On the shore of the Curonian Lagoon near Svencelė, expanses of water meet broad sand dunes and untouched dense forests. There is also the Svencelės pelkė bog, the protected Svencelės II ąžuolas oak, and a coastal cycling route that passes through the village. The Svencelės II ąžuolas oak is 32 m tall and has a trunk circumference of 4.6 m. It was placed under protection in 2025. Its height and circumference give a concrete sense of the tree’s size; the year it was protected adds a time reference to these measurements. As a named natural feature, the oak offers a distinct point of interest alongside the extensive landscape by the lagoon.

The Svencelės pelkė bog is part of the Svencelės telmologinis draustinis, a 1,206 ha protected area that extends across the Klaipėda and Šilutė district municipalities. The area figure refers to the protected area as a whole. Visiting the bog is subject to a specific restriction: visits are prohibited from 1 April to 1 August. Exceptions are made for cases provided for under the Lithuanian Law on Special Conditions of Land Use. Check the current rules before visiting.

Coastal cycling route and shoreline history

The 115 km coastal cycling route (Route III) runs from Klaipėda to Rusnė and passes through Svencelė. Its total length indicates the scale of the route; Svencelė is a place along its course, not its starting point or destination. If you include the route in your plans, check its current course and conditions before setting out, as these may change.

Another feature by the lagoon is the Svencele Dunes marina. The privately funded infrastructure on the shore of the Curonian Lagoon was commissioned on 1 July 2022. The date adds a specific reference to the recent history of the shoreline alongside the landscape and nature themes.
