Casa della Fantasia is a multifunctional centre for illustration and books and the home of the Fondazione Štěpán Zavřel. From November to February, it hosts each year the new edition of the international illustration exhibition for children, “Le Immagini della Fantasia”. From March to September, it presents the exhibition “Il Sole ritrovato. L’illustrazione del secondo ’900 a Sarmede”. In addition, the Church of Sant’Antonio was built in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 19th century.

The 43rd “Le Immagini della Fantasia” exhibition in Sarmede included more than 200 original works. The exhibition route was entitled “Natura e Visioni” and curated by Silvia Paccassoni. For school classes of all age groups, the Fondazione Štěpán Zavřel offers Italian-language guided tours on request of Sarmede’s outdoor murals and the Štěpán Zavřel Museum. The cultural spectrum thus ranges from changing illustration exhibitions to permanent traces in the townscape.

Historic Trails and Different Hiking Days

The historic educational trail Sentiero Pagnoca is approximately 4.6 kilometres long and has around 560 metres of elevation gain. It retraces the route taken by the partisans from Montaner on their first ascent on 26 March 1944 into the Cansiglio to Col Alt. The Sentiero del Santo begins in Borgo Martin and follows a mule track lined with dry-stone walls that was formerly used to transport hay and wood into the valley.

The Montaner–Cal De Zot–Le Scaffe hiking trail begins north of Montaner at an elevation of 330 metres and leads along a path protected by dry-stone walls. The different starting points, approximate trail length and elevation gain help you assess your preferred day plan more precisely, without reducing the trails to the same level of difficulty.

Views, Sacred History and Regional Connections

The Strada del Patriarca leads to Monte Castelir, a viewpoint overlooking the Monte Cesen–Col Visentin mountain range, Monte Pizzoc, Montello and Castello di Cordignano. At the Church of San Giorgio in Rugolo, the cult of this eastern martyr was spread in the West by the Lombards; the first church was probably built during their rule in the 6th or 7th century. At Col Olivier in the Bosco del Cansiglio, the construction of an equipped area for recreational purposes and to enhance the area is planned.

Bus routes 301 and 302 connect Sarmede with Vittorio Veneto from Monday to Saturday.
