Holiday apartment in Treviso: the Sile, museums and nature

In Treviso, the city's history and water are closely intertwined: the River Sile flows through the streets of Treviso. Isola della Pescheria was created in the River Cagnan to accommodate the fish market. Between museums, churches, riverside paths and distinctive landscapes, this creates a diverse picture of the city and its surroundings.

Culture

A central place in the history of art is the Museo Santa Caterina. From 1346 onwards, the complex was built as a monastery of the Servite Order on the remains of the destroyed palace of the Da Camino lords of Treviso; it also includes a church dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The church contains frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries, including the cycle of Saint Ursula by Tomaso da Modena. The museum also includes an archaeological department and a gallery of medieval, Renaissance and modern art.

Within Treviso's city walls, the Church of San Nicolò lies in the southwest of the city. Its columns feature 14th-century frescoes from the school of Tommaso da Modena. The Museo Luigi Bailo focuses on a different period, being dedicated to the artistic productions of the 19th and 20th centuries and housing more than 150 works by Arturo Martini.

The Museo Etnografico Provinciale "Case Piavone" is located in a rural architectural complex whose origins date back to the late 17th century. Temporary exhibitions are held there, along with events on folk traditions. The immediate surroundings of Treviso also include Palazzo dei Trecento, the Chiave di volta snc museum, the historic site of Chiesa Santa Maria and the historic site of Walls. Treviso is also home to an altarpiece depicting the Annunciation by Titian.

Nature

Parco della Storga covers 67 hectares and extends across the municipalities of Treviso and Carbonera. The park contains spring emergence areas where groundwater reaches the surface and forms distinctive ecological systems. Another natural area is the Burci cemetery on the path along the Sile. There, footbridges lead between the wrecks and through species-rich nature.

Parco Naturale Regionale del Fiume Sile can be reached from Treviso Central Station by bus no. 5 towards S. Cristina and Quinto di Treviso, getting off at the S. Maria del Sile stop. The cycle path along the Sile from Treviso to Casale sul Sile combines art, history and nature. Watercourses, traces of history and the paths along the river offer different perspectives on the same landscape.

In the wider region surrounding Treviso are Mount Colesel Val dell'Acqua, Carbonera Island, Isola dei Laghi and Mazzorbo Island. These places add further types of landscape to the picture of the region, without equating the immediate urban area with the broader surroundings.

Radicchio Rosso di Treviso IGP is grown in the countryside around Treviso. It is part of a culinary route through the region and therefore represents one of the regional connections extending beyond museums and landscapes.
