The present-day sanctuary is a Neoclassical building with a circular floor plan, a pronaos with a triangular pediment and Ionic columns. In this way, the site combines religious significance with clearly recognisable architectural forms.

The sanctuary is the starting point for numerous trails leading into the valley or to Cima Grappa. The historic Mulattiera del Grappa, CAI Trail 105, connects Madonna del Covolo with Cima Grappa. Running parallel to it is the Direttissima, CAI Trail 106, which is intended for experienced hikers. A short woodland path leads from the sanctuary to the Tre Busi spring, which is believed to have healing properties.

The ascent from Crespano to the sanctuary also has its own character: the steep, picturesque unpaved road is lined with fifteen wayside shrines corresponding to the Stations of the Cross.
