Conegliano combines artistic treasures, a long-established wine-growing tradition and varied routes through vineyards and hilly landscapes. Historical discoveries, a cycling tour through the Prosecco area and nature along the Monticano offer different focal points.

Art and History in the Town Centre

At Conegliano Cathedral, you will encounter several notable landmarks in the town’s history. The cathedral was begun in 1345 by the Battuti and houses an altarpiece by Giambattista Cima da Conegliano dating from 1493. The Sala dei Battuti also contains a fresco cycle depicting scenes from the Creation of the World to the Last Judgment.

The traditional name Contrada Granda refers to the route of the main street through the historic centre. It includes Via XX Settembre, Piazza Cima and Via Beato Marco Ongaro. At the top of Conegliano’s hill, the castle’s bell tower now houses the town museum. The restored cloister of the San Francesco convent, meanwhile, is primarily used for cultural activities.

The Museo Manzoni also has its own distinctive character: It displays scientific materials, instruments, publications and locations at the institute where the professor conducted his daily research. Those interested in the history of Jewish life can visit Conegliano’s Jewish Cemetery on Cabalan Hill, which was established in 1545. Guided tours of the cemetery are offered on the first Sunday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, while visits on other days require prior registration.

Wine Growing and the Prosecco Landscape

Conegliano is closely associated with the development of wine growing. The G.B. Cerletti School of Viticulture was founded in 1876 and is considered the oldest wine school in Italy. At Conegliano’s wineries, guided wine tastings and visits to the wineries and vineyards are possible by prior reservation.

The Strada del Prosecco e Vini dei Colli Conegliano-Valdobbiadene runs through the gentle morainic hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. When planning your trip, you can choose between different ways of getting around: The Munich–Venice cycle route passes through Conegliano, while the Bike Tour Prosecco is a 35-kilometre e-bike ride through the vineyards. It starts in Conegliano town centre and is also suitable for less experienced cyclists.

Routes Along the River and in Nature

Along the Monticano, visitors can explore the riverside nature from Conegliano. Those planning a longer route can travel north as far as Lago di Pradella. The small, picturesque lake was formerly called “Lago del Majo”.
