Church, palazzo and Venetian villas

A central point of reference is the Chiesa di San Pietro Apostolo. Its oldest parts, including the polygonal apse and the central nave, date from the 14th to the 15th century. The bell tower has a square floor plan and is topped by an onion dome. The Chiesa di San Pietro Apostolo is wheelchair accessible.

In the centre of San Pietro di Cadore stands the Palazzo Poli-De Pol, built by the Poli family in the mid-17th century. Villa de Manzoni ai Patt is also known as Villa Poli. In Mare, Villa Poli-De Pol-Sammartini is considered the northernmost Venetian villa.

Costalta: timber construction and art in the hamlet

Costalta, a hamlet of San Pietro di Cadore, is characterised by houses built entirely of wood using the traditional log-building technique. CostaltArte also takes place in Costalta, an event aimed at enhancing the hamlet with wooden sculptures carved by Italian and international artists. In Costalta, the traditional log-building technique and wooden sculptures by Italian and international artists thus come together within the same hamlet.

The Museo etnografico casa Angiul Sai presents stories, traditions and insights into the everyday life of times gone by and displays a mountain house that is over one hundred years old. Outside the summer months of July and August, the museum is accessible by prior arrangement. Anyone planning to visit the museum outside July and August should include the necessary advance booking in their daily schedule.

Hikes in Val Visdende

San Pietro di Cadore forms the gateway to Val Visdende and is connected with the source of the Piave. An easy hike leads from Costalta along Trail 166 to Rifugio Forcella Zovo. It starts in Costalta, takes about one hour and involves around 250 metres of elevation gain. For daily planning, this involves a shorter time window than the tours in Val Visdende that take several hours.

The routes in Val Visdende are more demanding: CAI Trail 136 leads to the sources of the Piave and onwards to Rifugio Sorgenti del Piave. The hike takes two hours, is of moderate difficulty and involves 500 metres of elevation gain. The Strada delle Malghe is a difficult hike of around seven hours across seven mountain pastures and starts at Pra Marino. Another trail connection from Val Visdende to San Pietro di Cadore takes about six hours. The routes lasting several hours therefore require a different allocation of time than the route from Costalta to Rifugio Forcella Zovo.
