Pedavena between trails and mountain history

Pedavena connects Monte Avena with trails, historic sites and local experiences. In summer, walks lead through the extensive pastures of Monte Avena; people also use the mountain for free flight. Some routes in the municipality are suitable not only for hiking but also for mountain biking. When choosing your holiday apartment in Pedavena, it therefore helps to consider whether you would like to focus on physical activity, history or enjoyable discoveries.

Circular routes for different kinds of holiday days

Most routes in Pedavena can be walked all year round. They run mainly within the municipality and are laid out as circular routes, with the start and finish at the same point. The Anello del Monte Avena is marked with white and blue directional arrows bearing its name. This makes it possible to combine active days in the mountains with clear orientation, without requiring a particular type of route.

Nature and history on Monte Avena

A few artefacts from the Middle Paleolithic, the Mousterian, were found at the archaeological site on Monte Avena. They were made by Neanderthals around 60,000 years ago. The Santuario dei Santi Tiburzio e Susanna is also located on Monte Avena, above Facen at an altitude of 929 metres. From Facen, the sanctuary can be reached via a steep path. It has very ancient origins and was probably built on the ruins of an ancient watchtower.

Villa Pasole also tells part of Pedavena’s past: it was built on the ruins of an ancient castle and was the seat of the Accademia degli Erranti, a circle of intellectuals and artists. In addition to landscapes and outdoor activities, the site therefore offers concrete points of interest for visitors who enjoy combining their stay with cultural discoveries.

Picnics, visits and local products

In Pian d’Avena in Pedavena, at the foot of the Vette Feltrine, you will find the park’s information and refreshment point. It has picnic tables, fire pits for barbecues, toilets and information material about the park. In Pedavena, visits to the brewery are possible all year round by prior reservation. A guided tour lasts around 60 minutes and includes the brewing room and the historical museum with old tools, machines and equipment.

Enjoyment on the trails and at festivals

Magna e Cammina is a 7-kilometre walking route through the forests and across the mountain pastures of Monte Avena. Four stations offer tastings of local specialities. At the Mercatini nel Parco Birreria Pedavena, visitors can discover and buy local and handcrafted products. The Festa di Fonte di Santa Susanna takes place on 11 August; on this occasion, members of the Facen community walk to the sanctuary.

The Festa dell’Orzo is documented as a separate past event: it took place on 15 and 16 July 2023 in Pedavena and included events, music, food and beer. For regional travel planning, you can also view Misurina, San Gregorio Nelle Alpi, Arsié, Masarè, Cesiomaggiore, Santa Giustina, Montebello and Quero.
