Dosoledo combines a distinctive villagescape with Ladin culture, lively mask traditions and themed trails. On the outskirts of the village, a long row of wooden barns has been preserved, recalling the historic architecture and former way of life of the mountain population. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Dosoledo, you can choose the location according to the mix of cultural discoveries and trail experiences you prefer.

Holiday apartment in Dosoledo: Culture and Local History

The Algudnei cultural project presents research findings about the local area and the Ladin culture of Comelico. The Museo Algudnei is located in Dosoledo, Comelico Superiore. This makes the museum one of the specific cultural destinations you can include when planning a day in Dosoledo.

Another defining landmark is the Church of Saints Rocco and Osvaldo. It houses a pearwood altar created by Andrea Brustolon between 1722 and 1723 and dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. At the same time, the church is the first Neoclassical church in Comelico; its construction was further developed between 1839 and 1844 by Giuseppe Segusini. There are steps at the entrance, making the church difficult for people with disabilities to access. Accessibility should therefore be taken into account when planning a visit to the Church of Saints Rocco and Osvaldo.

Palazzo Zandonella also focuses attention on the architectural history of the village. It preserves a monumental entrance portal made of dark tuff, window surrounds made of yellow tuff and an eagle coat of arms on the façade. The different materials and the coat of arms make the façade a distinctive detail on a walk through Dosoledo.

Experience Masks and Mountain Traditions

The “maskarada” of Dosoledo takes place every year on the Sunday closest to 9 February, the feast of Saint Apollonia. The traditional masks “lachè”, “matazin”, “matazera” and “vecia” appear in the Dosoledo procession.

Themed Trails around Dosoledo

Four themed “Troi” trails connect Dosoledo with Padola, Leri, Candide and Casa Mazzagno. Wooden sculptures by local carvers tell stories about the mountain traditions of Comelico. The section from Auronzo di Cadore to Candide reaches Dosoledo via the “troi di mistieri”, where wooden sculptures recall historic professions.

The “Tròi dli mascri” runs between Dosoledo and the Fienile di Bigaran and presents the theme of Carnival through around twenty sculptures made from native larch. The “Tròi dli Tradizion” is an easy themed trail between Candide and Dosoledo; the trailhead is on Via Staunovo in Dosoledo. This means that your planning can combine trails with different cultural focuses: historic professions, mountain traditions and the visual language of Carnival.
