Ecclesiastical and medieval history

The parish of Sant'Egidio in Poggio Aquilone can be traced back to a land register compiled around 1500. Henry VII of Luxembourg was hosted in Poggio Aquilone in 1312. The Statute of Poggio Aquilone was drawn up in 1442 and comprised 109 articles regulating the small community.

Archaeological traces and Castel del Poggio

A Copper Age and Stone Age burial was discovered near Poggio Aquilone in 1898. The flint and copper objects found there are now kept in the Archaeological Museum of Bologna. Castel del Poggio de l’Aquilone was associated with the Cadolingi counts of Marsciano in the 13th century.
