Orvieto Scalo appeals to travellers who want to combine nature, activity, culture and regional flavours. When choosing a holiday apartment in Orvieto Scalo, you can organise your days around a visit to the garden, routes, festivals and the ascent to Orvieto.

Giardino del Fosso dell'Abbadia: a garden with distinctive features

Giardino del Fosso dell'Abbadia is located on Via Monte Terminillo in Orvieto Scalo. The garden has shade structures, play equipment and an enclosed area for dogs. New signage and lighting are also among its existing features. Those travelling with children or a dog can include these specific facilities in their daily plans without limiting their stay to a single experience.

Another local connection runs through the tunnel on Via Paglia. It connects the garden with the rest of the neighbourhood and has been lit and repainted. This access route is therefore also one of the notable points around Giardino del Fosso dell'Abbadia.

Routes and cycling tours for different daily plans

Itinerary 5 runs from Orvieto Scalo via Le Velette and Canale Vecchio to Porano. The “Orvieto Scalo – Between rivers and streams” route begins at Piazza della Pace in Orvieto Scalo, is mostly flat and crosses a pedestrian bridge towards Ciconia. The different route options help you organise active days according to your preferred direction and level of difficulty.

There are also several clearly distinguishable starting points for cycling. The second stage of the Ciclovia del Sole runs from Fabro Scalo to Orvieto Scalo. The Ciclovia del Sole begins near the first houses of Orvieto Scalo, on a dedicated cycle and pedestrian path. The “Colourful landscapes” cycling loop begins and ends at the car park by Orvieto Scalo railway station, while the “From DOC vineyards to wild woods” cycling loop begins at Piazzale della Pace in Orvieto Scalo.

Via Crucis and Sant'Anna: culture with a local character

At the Via Crucis in Orvieto Scalo, the procession begins at Sant'Anna Church and returns there. The traditional celebrations in honour of the patron saint Sant'Anna in Orvieto Scalo include a religious procession. The celebrations also featured food stalls offering fried foods and fish specialities.

Regional products at TRAMErcato

TRAMErcato was a market of agricultural producers and craftspeople from the Orvietano area, held on Saturday, 13 June, in the gardens next to the roundabout in Orvieto Scalo. TRAMErcato offered cheeses, cured meats, seasonal organic vegetables, wine, honey and extra virgin olive oil. Around 11 a.m., producers offered an aperitif for tasting the specialities available at the market.

Getting there and ascending to Orvieto

Piazza Matteotti in Orvieto Scalo is the main departure point for buses serving the town centre and other places in the surrounding area. Orvieto's funicular railway has a station at Piazza Matteotti in Orvieto Scalo, on the same square as the railway station. It connects Piazza Matteotti with Piazza Cahen in upper Orvieto and takes passengers to the town centre in a few minutes.

Orvieto railway station is on the Rome–Florence–Milan railway line. The stops for urban and intercity buses are located at Piazzale Matteotti, opposite the railway station and the lower funicular station. From Piazzale Matteotti, you can take the funicular or the urban bus up to the old town.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Orvieto Scalo, you can therefore take your preferred daily rhythm into account: a day in the garden with children or a dog, a mostly flat route, a cycling loop, regional festivals and markets, or the connection up to Orvieto. The different starting points make it possible to tailor your travel plans to your personal interests.
