Piazza del Popolo is located at the highest point of Todi. It forms the centre of the medieval and modern city and lies on the site of the Roman forum. The cathedral, or Duomo, of Todi is located on the piazza and is the city's most important Catholic place of worship. The cathedral was built in the 12th century on the ruins of an existing Roman temple. On the counterfaçade there is a fresco of the Last Judgment created by Faenzone in 1596. The ancient forum of Todi extended beneath the present-day cathedral.

The Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione is regarded as an exemplary work of Renaissance architecture. Its central floor plan is shaped like a Greek cross, with three polygonal apses and one semicircular apse. Construction began in 1508 and was completed in 1607; the design was attributed to Donato Bramante. The Tempio San Fortunato tells a different architectural story: it was built by the Order of Friars Minor according to the design of an unknown architect from 1292 until the second half of the 15th century and remained unfinished. It has a Gothic bell tower dating from 1460. The old monastery with a cloister also stands nearby.

Frescoes, museum and art in the landscape

All the walls in the Casa Dipinta are decorated with frescoes. The ancient Ogham alphabet, which was used in Ireland until the 7th century, is also depicted there. The Museo civico e Pinacoteca preserves the historical memory of the Todi area. Together, these two topics broaden the view of the town to include interiors, visual art and traces of different cultural contexts.

The Beverly Pepper Park also combines art and landscape in its own distinctive way. The sculptural benches known as “lunettes” are viewpoints where you can admire the artworks and the landscape. During the Disfida di San Fortunato, costumed processions take place in Piazza del Popolo and flag throwers perform. Getting to Todi

Todi can be reached by car via the Autostrada del Sole. Coming from the north, take the Valdichiana exit; from the south, take the Orte exit and then continue on the E45 to the Todi exit. The Ferrovia Centrale Umbra connects Todi with several places in Umbria, including central Perugia, Perugia Ponte San Giovanni and Terni.
