The parish church of Gavelli is dedicated to San Michele Arcangelo. Most of the frescoes in San Michele Arcangelo were created in 1518 by Giovanni Spagna and his students. The dedication and the frescoes connect the church interior with the archangel and with the art of the early 16th century.

The apse of San Michele Arcangelo also presents a special religious motif: it depicts the appearance of the archangel on Monte Gargano.

The Laghetto e Piano di Gavelli protected area is located in the Alta Val Casana, southeast of the village of Gavelli.

Hiking Trails with Different Starting Points

The SP 471 connects Sant'Anatolia di Narco with Gavelli. The Sentiero della Valcasana leads from Sant'Anatolia di Narco via CAI Trail No. 540 to Scheggino and from there via CAI Trail No. 512, “Strada delle Ferriere”, to Gavelli.

From Gavelli, more experienced hikers can reach the summit of Coscerno via CAI Trail No. 537 and then Trail No. 539. For hikers, the routes differ in their starting points: the Sentiero della Valcasana leads from Sant'Anatolia di Narco to Gavelli, while the route to Coscerno begins in Gavelli.

Local Agriculture and a Festival Around Ferragosto

Recently, a local cooperative rediscovered the cultivation of Triticum durum dicoccum in the fields of Gavelli and produces limited quantities of it. Grain cultivation adds an agricultural aspect to the landscape of meadows, pastures and Turkey oaks.

At present, only a joint patronal feast in honour of San Michele Arcangelo and Beato Benedetto takes place in the parish church of Gavelli during the period around Ferragosto.
