Corciano combines a historic centre surrounded by high walls with churches, museums, towers and squares. Its medieval structure can be seen in its lanes and stairways as well as in its palaces, gardens, bell towers and other religious buildings.

Choose a holiday apartment in Corciano between history and nature

A prominent starting point for visiting the town is the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta. The 13th-century church is located in an urban setting near Corciano’s main square. Inside, it preserves Perugino’s altarpiece of the Assumption from 1513, as well as Benedetto Bonfigli’s Gonfalone della Peste from 1472. Piazza Coragino is also home to a 16th-century fountain. Together with the walls and medieval streets, these features create a compact cultural experience that fits easily into a self-planned stay.

The Torrione di Porta Santa Maria also tells the story of the town’s former fortifications: it was built in 1482 as a defensive structure for the village of Corciano. Since 2015, the torrione has been used as an exhibition space and is divided into the three small rooms Sala dei Massari, Sala delle Bertesche and Sala della Chiave. Another historic stop is the Chiesa Museo San Francesco, immediately outside the walls of the village of Corciano. It dates from the late 13th century.

Museums for curious explorers

The Antiquarium is divided into the areas of palaeontology, prehistory and early history, and classical archaeology. In the palaeontological section, you can see Mesozoic ammonite fossils from Migiana dating from the Lower Jurassic, as well as remains of Quaternary mammals from Ellera dating from the Lower Pleistocene. The classical archaeology section includes reconstructions of two princely chariots. They were found in April 1812 near Castel San Mariano, in a tomb from the 6th century BC.

The Museo della Pievania is located in the church of San Cristoforo in the historic centre of Corciano and documents the religious life of the local community. The Museo della Casa Contadina offers a different perspective on the town. It documents Corciano’s rural life before industrialisation through four typical rooms. The cellar or workshop contains agricultural tools and a restored, working loom. These tangible insights in particular give families and other travellers something to talk about during a shared day of culture.

The Infopoint contains a scale plaster model of the village of Corciano at a scale of 1:100. Local craftspeople made it between 2006 and 2011. For orientation within the historic townscape, this model is just as interesting as the subsequent exploration of the real lanes, stairways and towers. The church and monastery of Sant’Agostino are a historic pilgrimage destination. Both are closed; visits are only possible by prior reservation.

Nature, theatre and wine as different ideas for a day

The Monte Malbe nature area adjoining Corciano is used for walks and excursions. In this way, the landscape complements the town’s cultural and historical attractions with a quieter, more active idea for a day. Since 2014, the Teatro della Filarmonica has hosted an annual theatre season in collaboration with the Teatro Stabile dell’Umbria. The range therefore extends from walks and excursions to an evening of live theatre.

A culinary aspect was showcased by the 12th edition of Corciano Castello di Vino, which took place from 4 October 2024 to 6 October 2024 in the old medieval lanes of Corciano. The event was organised as a tasting route featuring wines from local and non-local wineries. When choosing a holiday apartment or other accommodation in Corciano, you can therefore first consider which combination should shape your stay: historic interiors and museums, paths on Monte Malbe, theatre or wine.
