Holiday apartment in Capitan Loreto: churches, cycling routes and Umbrian wine

Capitan Loreto combines an impressive local history with cycling and motorcycle tours, as well as Umbrian wine culture. Between the Church of Santa Lucia, a private 17th-century chapel and the remains of a Roman tomb, a destination emerges that combines cultural discoveries with active days and special festive occasions.

Churches and stories from Capitan Loreto

The new Church of Santa Lucia and the Parish of Santa Lucia in Capitan Loreto came into being through the religious dedication and numerous sacrifices of the parish priest D. Bernardo Angelini and the local population. In 1938, the residents donated grain to finance the construction work around the church, which was then under construction.

The private Chapel of Sant’Antonio da Padova also dates back to the 17th century. It was built as the family chapel of the Villa Adanti complex and stands in Capitan Loreto on the old Roman road from Spello to Rivotorto. The chapel contains a 17th-century painting depicting the saint holding the Christ Child in his arms. Thus, architectural history, religious art and a historic road connection come together in one place.

Among the unusual Roman traces is the structure locally and in the IGM toponymy known as “Il Torrione”. It is a Roman tomb, not a fortification. The remains have been incorporated into the surrounding residential buildings. Originally, the tomb stood beside the Via Flaminia, which was also known as the “Via romana”. It is precisely this contrast between its ancient function and its present-day integration into residential buildings that makes the site particularly noteworthy for visitors interested in cultural history.

Bus, motorcycle and bicycle

Busitalia’s weekday LU bus route runs via Spello, Castellaccio, Capitan Loreto and Santa Luciola. Its route also includes the stop in Capitan Loreto.

A motorcycle tour to Monte Subasio runs from Spello along Statale 147 towards Capitan Loreto and San Vitale, before climbing from San Vitale to Monte Subasio. Capitan Loreto is part of stage 1 of the Assisi-Spoleto cycle route from Assisi to Bevagna.

Another cycling event was Subasio Epyc 2025. The open start window was at the Centro Polivalente in Capitan Loreto between 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. Subasio Epyc also included Kids Epyc, a cycling event at the Centro Polivalente for children and young people.

Grechetto and Umbrian culinary culture

The Rassegna del Grechetto, held annually in Capitan Loreto in July, is a festival celebrating Umbrian white wine and includes dance evenings. One edition comprised ten evenings dedicated to Umbrian culinary tradition and local wine. The 33rd edition offered good food, music and, above all, wine from numerous Umbrian wineries.
