Another panel, created around 1405 to 1410, depicting the Madonna and Child with angels, is attributed to the Maestro della Madonna Strass and comes from the church of San Martino in Abeto di Preci.

Caves, fossils and Valle Castoriana

The surroundings of Abeto combine fossil discoveries with early traces of human use. They are rich in fossils that point to the presence of humans in prehistoric times. Etruscan pottery fragments from the Grotte preistoriche di Abeto suggest that the caves were later used as a place of habitation and burial. Finds of flint arrowheads and working debris led Umberto Calzoni to hypothesise the existence of a lithic workshop on the Fiano Plateau, that is, a possible site for stoneworking.
