Historical Traces along Via Montalese

The place name Fornacelle derives from the lime and brick kilns dating back to the 15th century and points to a craft-oriented past. Fornacelle is located along the old Via Montalese towards Montale. The Tabernacle del Campo Santo still stands on this road in the Fornacelle area. It commemorates the discovery in whose memory it was erected. The Fornacelle area was established as a parish on 5 June 1986 under the name Santa Maria Madre di Dio.

A defibrillator is located at the entrance of the Church of Santa Maria Madre di Dio at Via Lamarmora 1. In the Fornacelle district of Montemurlo, Sunday Mass was celebrated for decades in the chapel attached to Villa Giamari. Villa Giamari initially belonged to the Villani family. The municipal library moved into the Renaissance villa Villa Giamari in October 2003; the Municipal Historical Archive is also housed in the municipal library.
