Trails with History and Different Levels of Difficulty

The Percorso Giallo is approximately 1.5 km long, has an elevation gain of 150 m and leads to bunker remains as well as the reconstructed “La Buca” bunker. The Percorso Verde has a different character and is also known as “Via del partigiano”: it is approximately 1 km long, has no elevation gain and features wooden sculptures as well as the “Albero della Pace”. Nature at Cappel d’Orlando

The easy, red-and-blue-marked trail “Itinerario del Cappel d'Orlando”, also known as the old connecting road between Pianosinatico and Pian degli Ontani, is approximately 7 km long as a mixed route, has an ascent of 70 m and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes there and back. Along this old connecting road, orchids and snowdrops can be observed at the roadside. On the route, a narrow ridge path leads to the summit of Cappel d'Orlando after several ascents and descents.

The route also passes a beech tree called “Albero della Fortuna”. According to a local legend, walking through the opening in its trunk brings lifelong good luck. From the summit of Cappel d'Orlando, a viewpoint offers views across the Lima and Sestaione valleys. The range of experiences therefore extends from botanical observations along the route to a prominent viewpoint over two valleys.

Local History and Location

In the second half of the 18th century, Pianosinatico was home to one of four post stations with an inn in the Pistoia area. It served as a temporary stop for couriers, private carriages and stagecoaches, for transporting people, goods and correspondence, changing horses, and passengers boarding and disembarking. Pianosinatico is located on the Statale 12 dell’Abetone e del Brennero, the state road to Abetone and the Brenner Pass.
