Goraiolo among fir forests and mountain country

Goraiolo lies at a crossroads leading towards the villages of Alto Pesciatino and the Apennine peaks. The Strada della Bugia runs through the village and then continues along the SP3bis. The section near Goraiolo passes through dense fir forests. The forested section gives the route through Goraiolo a distinct landscape character. Goraiolo’s more recent tourist development is attributed to its convenient location. When planning a drive through the mountain country, this forested section can be included as part of the road route.

Bus connections around Goraiolo

Goraiolo is a stop on bus route 855. Route 855 connects Montecatini Terme, Marliana, Panicagliora, Avaglio and Serra. Goraiolo can be reached beyond the medieval village of Marliana, which is also one of the places connected by the route. When planning a day with several stops, the bus stop complements the road route with a bus connection. The journey to Goraiolo can therefore be planned separately from the rest of the road route.

Cycling between Firenze–Viareggio and Marliana–Goraiolo

Goraiolo lies on the route of the Firenze–Viareggio road race. The Marliana–Goraiolo time trial climb is 5.0 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 282 metres. It was one of the three time-trial sections of the 15th edition of the Gran Fondo Edita Pucinskaite. Firenze–Viareggio is a road race; the Marliana–Goraiolo time trial climb is a climb with a specified length and elevation gain. When planning a day of cycling, the 5.0 kilometres and 282 metres of elevation gain can be taken into account as route and gradient data; the climb can thereby be planned as a separate section. Hiking route to La Pievaccia

In the area around Goraiolo, the La Pievaccia–Serra hiking route begins in Panicagliora and continues in the direction of Goraiolo–Pescia. From there, the route leads in less than 2 kilometres to the ruins of the parish church of S. Andrea di Furfalo. The ruins are also known as La Pievaccia. The path to the ruins remains a clearly defined section of less than 2 kilometres; beyond that, the route continues in the direction of Goraiolo–Pescia. When planning a hike, this section can be separated from the rest of the route. The short section and the subsequent direction can thus be taken into account one after the other.

Circular hike over the ridge

Another circular hike passes through Casore del Monte, Femminamorta, Panicagliora, Goraiolo, Marliana and Nievole. It reaches Goraiolo along a ridge and offers views of the mountains of the Province of Pistoia. The circular hike passes through several places, while the route to La Pievaccia continues to the ruins of the parish church of S. Andrea di Furfalo. For a day of hiking, the circular route can be planned as a trail through several places rather than as a route to a single destination. The sequence of places and the ridge give the circular hike a different course from the path to the ruins.
