In 1255, the nobles of Versilia signed an alliance called the “Lega di Stazzema” in this parish church.

The Torre dell’Argentiera is also one of the defensive structures still visible in Stazzema’s historic silver-mining area. Monte Procinto, Monte Matanna, Monte Forato and Monte Pania della Croce are located nearby; they are all mountains in the vicinity of Stazzema.
