Cerasomma is considered a medieval village. A holiday accommodation in Cerasomma therefore offers a destination defined by historical traces and paths through the hilly landscape.

Hiking trails between Cerasomma, Meati and Monte Pisano

Route 104 leads from Cerasomma to Sentiero 00. It is 2.2 kilometres long, climbs 130 metres in elevation and is rated difficulty E. An equestrian excursion leads between Lucca and Pisa via Monte Pisano, the Serchio riverbanks and the Puccini cycle and walking path to Cerasomma. For day planning, Route 104 can be scheduled as a separate hiking section alongside the connections via Meati and the equestrian excursion. The three types of route lead to different starting and finishing points in the area around Cerasomma.

A route from Meati continues to the medieval village of Cerasomma. Other paths from Meati lead to Monte Orma and through the hills of Pisa to a ridge with sweeping views of the surrounding area. A circular route leads to the ruins of Castelpasserino, an old fortress built in the 13th century. The return route to Meati passes San Michele Arcangelo, whose façade displays Romanesque features. The circuit returns to Meati, linking the fortress ruins with a church building on the way back.

Villa Tambellini de Fondra and historical traces

Villa Tambellini de Fondra is a 17th-century villa in Cerasomma. It has a park, an Italian-style garden and an oval chapel. The villa also houses an exhibition on the history and genealogy of the Fondra family. The park, garden and chapel give the complex a clearly structured architectural layout, while the exhibition focuses on the family background.

Churches and fortress ruins in the surrounding area

Castelpasserino was built by Lucca on a hill above Cerasomma against Pisa. In 1260, the church of San Bartolomeo was assigned to Castelpasserino. The nearby church of San Michele Arcangelo in Meati is first mentioned in a document from 1055 and is now an important stop on Romanesque routes in the Upper Tyrrhenian area between Italy and France. The years 1055 and 1260 thus relate to different historical references in the area around Cerasomma.

San Pietro in Cerasomma was historically connected with the church and parish in Pieve di Flesso; the parish of Cerasomma is assigned to San Pietro. In the Oltreserchio region, there are walks in the surrounding area and panoramic hikes. For day planning, this means that, alongside the paths through the hills, destinations connected with the history of churches and fortresses in the wider region are also available.

Other places to include in your travel plans are Piaggione, San Concordio Di Moriano, Ciciana, Arsina, Mastiano, Nozzano Castello, Santa Maria Del Giudice and Balbano.
