History taking concrete shape in the village

One cultural highlight is the parish church of San Giorgio. It houses an Early Christian bas-relief depicting an olive tree and birds.

Individual biographies are also part of Vigolo Vattaro’s history. Amabile Visintainer, known as Santa Paolina, was born in Vigolo Vattaro in 1865. Castello di Vigolo was built during the Renaissance at the transition between the Vigolana and the Marzola to protect the village.

Palazzo Malfatti is a historic building in the centre of Vigolo Vattaro, located in the old town. It dates from the 16th century and features cross-shaped architecture, vaulted ceilings on the ground floor and wooden ceilings on the upper floors. Following only minor restoration work, the palazzo retained its contemporary architectural style and rough wooden floors. During the summer months, Il Palaz also serves as a venue for guest stays, residencies and advanced training in art, the performing arts and culture.

Panoramas and trails on the Vigolana

From Castel Vigolo, the panoramic view stretches across the entire plateau and the impressive carbonate bastions of the Vigolana. Above Vigolo Vattaro lies Terre Rosse, which is also part of the “I 60 Km della Vigolana” route and opens up views across the entire Altopiano della Vigolana.

The Vigolana has around 60 kilometres of walking and hiking trails, including routes between mountain huts. The trail network also includes themed routes for Nordic walking, mountain biking and horse riding. The “2367 Al castello di Vigolo Vattaro” tour leads through the old town of Vigolo Vattaro to Castel Vigolo on a scenic, green hill.

The “Da Bosentino a Castel Vigolo” circular route, which runs between Bosentino and Vigolo Vattaro and includes a playground in Vigolo Vattaro, is suitable for families with pushchairs. Another hike starts in Vigolo Vattaro along Via Sabbionara. After 500 metres, it joins trail 437, which alternates with a forest track. The “Tour of the senses Marzola” leads through Valene di Vigolo Vattaro, where an interactive sensory station explains the forests of the Vigolana.

Via Claudia Augusta is considered a Roman road and was built to connect the Valsugana with the Adige Valley. The Roman road and the Renaissance castle belong to different historical periods.
