Holiday apartment in Vezzano between geology and history
The Antonio Stoppani geological trail is well signposted, maintained by the Municipality of Vallelaghi and leads to the first eight glacial potholes. The Vallelaghi geology trail begins in the village of Vezzano on the northwestern slopes of Monte Bondone. It connects numerous glacial potholes known as “marmitte dei giganti”. This brings the geological peculiarity of the area to the forefront for those interested in nature.
Trails with different profiles
The circular route Anello sulle tracce dei vecchi mulini begins in Vezzano, leads to Fraveggio and Ciago and then returns; over approximately 7 km, it runs mainly along paths. The Valle dei Laghi Trail Tour is a difficult 43.8 km mountain-bike route with a stated duration of six hours. Together with the stated duration, the different route lengths help you plan the pace of your excursions. When travelling with varied interests, this allows you to develop separate day ideas for nature, culture and activity.
Historical traces in Vezzano
In 1527, Prince-Bishop Cardinal Bernardo Clesio elevated Vezzano to a borough in recognition of the obedience demonstrated by its inhabitants during the Peasants’ War. A shooting practice facility of the Imperial Regio Casino di Bersaglio has been documented in Vezzano since 1708. After almost a century of neglect, the Casino was reconstructed by the Compagnia Schützen “Major Enrico Tonelli” using drawings found in 1901 in the Provincial Archives of Innsbruck and inaugurated on 26 August 2012.
The circular route Giro delle 4 frazioni also adds a cultural accent: in Vezzano, it highlights the church dedicated to Saints Vigilius and Valentin. Another connection between landscape and culture is offered by the Parco d’Arte Lusan. It is a thematic centre of contemporary art in nature in the Valle dei Laghi, located in the municipal area of Vallelaghi and opened in 2020; its installations made from different materials are complemented by explanatory panels.
