Lake Tovel and Val di Tovel

In the immediate vicinity, on the shores of Lake Tovel, you will find Casa del Parco Lago Rosso. The visitor centre explores the history of the lake’s red colouring up to 1964. Exhibitions cover the algae responsible for it, the disappearance of this phenomenon and the wildlife of Val di Tovel.

Trails to the lake and through the landscape

Nearby, the road to Lake Tovel begins on the south-western side of Tuenno. It climbs for 11 kilometres through Val di Tovel. When all the car parks in Val di Tovel are full, vehicles are redirected to the Ex Cofco car park in the centre of Tuenno and a shuttle service is activated.

The Giro del Lago di Tovel loop trail is mostly level in the immediate vicinity. A short section leads over rocky steps and is made easier by a metal cable. The Sentiero delle Glare initially runs through a spruce and pine forest, then across the scree area known as delle Glare, which was created by a major landslide, and ends beside a gently flowing stream heading down the valley. Another route leads from Malga Tuena via SAT trail 309 downhill to the shores of Lake Tovel in a walking time of one hour; access is from Tuenno.

Sant'Orsola and S. Emerenziana

Tuenno originated as a prehistoric settlement. The chapel of S. Emerenziana dates from the 15th century and is known for its wooden altars and decorative triptych. The church of Sant'Orsola in Tuenno is said to have been mentioned for the first time in an inventory from 1422 that has not survived.

Sant'Orsola was restored and extended several times. The most important extension took place in 1914, when a new building was added to the old core. The new church was consecrated on 9 May 1925 by Bishop Celestino Endrici during a pastoral visit.

Apple orchards and regional agriculture

Agritur Leita in Tuenno offers an agricultural and gastronomic tour through the farm’s orchards. The cultivation of Melinda apples is at the centre of the tour.

Cycling towards Cles

The easy “Country” route of the Dolomiti di Brenta Bike leads from Tuenno towards Cles.
