Sover: Lagorai, Farmsteads and Village Culture

Holiday apartment in Sover between mountain trails and village culture

Sover combines high-altitude forests and alpine pastures with a farming heritage. If you choose a holiday apartment in Sover, you can plan your stay around high-altitude trails, village architecture and historic farmsteads. This allows you to focus on active days or cultural discoveries, depending on your interests.

High-altitude trails in the Lagorai

The “Alpeggi alle pendici del Lagorai” route leads through high-altitude forests and alpine pastures. It runs from just under 1,500 metres at Baita Monte Pat to over 2,000 metres at Monte Cogne. It is suitable for excursions on warm summer days as well as for snowshoe hikes in winter.

From Montesover, Baita Monte Pat can be reached by car or on foot via SAT 468. The route follows SAT 468 to Malga Vernera. From Montesover, Malga Vernera can be reached via a comfortable road through dense forest; it is the starting point for many trails in the heart of the Lagorai.

The “Sover e le sue frazioni” trail connects the districts of Sover, Piscine, Monte Alto and Montesover. From Piscine, a trail leads uphill through the forest to Maso Monte Alto, a viewpoint with spectacular views over the Cembra Valley. Sover also offers a wide panorama on the western slope of Monte Frattoni, opposite Grauno.

Village details and regional craft history

Several rustic, stately houses stand along Sover’s main street; some of their façades feature sacred frescoes. The main street leads to a church dedicated to S. Barbara and the Madonna delle Grazie, containing paintings by C. Segatta and Albertini. The Church of S. Lorenzo contains three Baroque wooden altars. Traditional roofs in Sover are covered with yellow-coloured tiles and terracotta tiles from the kilns of Molina di Fiemme. Woodcraft is a local tradition in the area around Sover, dating back to the 17th century.

Below Piscine, near the Avisio, Maso Pianaci consists of three old, well-preserved buildings. Two houses at Maso Marigiat are still intact; two others have fallen into disrepair. The surrounding land, formerly cultivated with vines and grain, is now overgrown with vegetation. The large rural Maso Castelir lies near the Avisio stream. It is now in ruins, was abandoned after the Second World War and formerly also served as an inn. Maria Turismo rurale was already a shop with an inn in 1840, selling goods for people’s livelihoods and clothing.

The fourth stage of the “Cammino delle terre sospese” from Sover to Grumes is 12.76 km long and includes 667 m of ascent and 641 m of descent. At Maria Turismo rurale, Renata offers hikers stories, coffee, facilities and warm hospitality. These specific impressions can help guide your choice of a holiday apartment in Sover: Would you like to focus on high-altitude trails and hiking stages, or are village details, churches and rural history equally important to you?
