Discover Romeno – Cycle Routes and Frescoes

Romeno lies on a sunny plateau surrounded by pine forests. Walking paths lead through the forests and provide the town with a clear setting for days when you want to combine landscapes and discoveries. At the edge of the town stands the Chiesa dei SS. Bartolomeo e Tommaso. From there, you can see the Brenta Dolomites.

Cycle Routes for Different Day Plans

For cycling, the 25-km Alta Val di Non circular cycle route offers a varied connection through several towns. It connects Malgolo, Romeno, Salter, Cavareno, Sarnonico, Ronzone, Malosco and Fondo, then passes through the meadows of Pradiei before returning to Romeno. Romeno is therefore both part of the route and the destination of the return described.

The Alta Val di Non cycle network also includes a 7-km unpaved mountain-bike route between Don and Amblar with a total elevation gain of 450 metres. The different lengths and types of route help you organise your own daily plans. Between Malgolo and Romeno there is also a striking overpass crossing the SS 43DIR, featuring a noteworthy construction made of wood and metal.

Churches, Frescoes and Lampi in Romeno

The Church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Romeno is part of the Cammino Jacopeo d'Anaunia, a network of ancient routes and churches associated with pilgrimages. Inside and out, it features fresco cycles depicting stories from the life of Saint Anthony the Great. The Church of San Bartolomeo contains some of the oldest frescoes in Trentino, in the Romanesque style with a Byzantine character.

The parish church of Romeno houses the Pala dell'Assunta, a Neoclassical work by Giambattista Lampi with very ancient origins. Frescoes by the famous Mattia Lampi, dating from 1720, can still be seen on numerous elegant houses in Romeno. The town also has a monument to local resident Giambattista Lampi (1751–1830). Church art, historic house façades and the monument can thus be discovered within a compact thematic area.

Local History and Festival Tradition

The Caseificio Sociale Alta Val di Non in Romeno and Cavareno was established in 1891 as a community dairy with changing management. A further insight into the local festival tradition was provided by the Fiera di San Bartolomeo e Mostra Bovina, held in Romeno on 24 August 2024: it featured an old-fashioned street fair and a cattle exhibition in Parco di Alice.
